India is all set to commemorate its 72nd Republic Day to honour the enactment of the Constitution of Indian which came into effect on Jan 26, 1950. Traditionally, the highlight of Republic Day is the iconic parade in which showcases India’s military power and cultural heritage. But this year, the commemoration are going to be slightly different on account of the pandemic and events in the past 12 months.

What cha nges happen to be made for the parade as a result of Covid?
For the first time since 1966, there will be no chief invitee in the Republic Day ornement. Originally, British PM Boris Jonhson was invited to come to India for the parade. Still he had to cancel his / her visit due to the outbreak of the new Covid strain in britain. Before this, India did not have a chief guest to the parade in 1952, 1953 and 1966.
The spectators will be limited to 25, 000 compared to 150, 000 a year ago (4, 500 tickets usually are for the general public). Also, the number of media persons in the ceremonial event will be cut from 300 to 190. The size of marching contingents have been reduced from 144 to help 96. Children under the regarding 15 will not be allowed to attend.
